Walk On Piano

w5

What happens?

Children can play the piano by jumping to different coloured areas on the floor. Buttons on the wall at the side allow them to change the style of the sound. There is no link between the colours and the shapes and the sounds they make when stood on but this exhibit has an obvious fun-factor built-in.

How does it work?

The sounds are pre-recorded and by standing on the colours a switch is activated which plays the sound.

Why is it important?

The exhibit adds an extra dimension of fun to making sounds and also allows children to explore shapes and colours while also exploring sound.

How does it relate to the curriculum?

  • Provides opportunity for sharing and playing together.
  • Exploring music and the senses.
  • Simple cause and effect relationships.
  • Using the exhibit is also a very physical activity and provides good exercise.
  • Improves listening skills.
  • Science: the physics of sound, vibration and sound, exploring materials.
